Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Description

Earth's Systems

Students will determine the density of freshwater, saltwater, and cold water vs. hot water. They will use a golfball as a visual because it will float in the salt water. Using the density difference data, students will answer questions about oceans and currents formed.

Students will make molecules to model a column of air, so they can understand how water in the atmosphere affects air pressure. Students will be weighing their columns of air to see how the weight changes as they add more water molecules to the air column. Then they will use their results to answer questions about air pressure and weather.

Students will be using information on water quality to understand what it is. Then they will plot and use water quality data, taken at various locations along a river, to gain an understanding of what can affect water quality in a river.

Students will be using a list of facts about lunar rocks and their previous knowledge about rocks and minerals to decide if a sample they are given is a moon rock or not. They must come up with a claim, evidence that backs the claim, and then defend the claim to the class.
