Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Constitution

This Blended Unit Plan may be used by third grade teachers to teach 6 weeks of study for Michigan Civics, Government, and Democracy. It provides a big picture approach to planning out daily/weekly lessons.

This Unit on the Foundation of American Government focuses on the founding of the U.S. government, the ideals of democracy, along with the historical influence of various government styles on the U.S. This blended government/civics unit and course offers elements of both face-to-face and interactive online learning.

This learning object will have your students reading the resource ' Founding Father's Library' online and realize that the ideas embodied in the Constitution didn't come from a vacuum. The Founding Fathers leaned on the writings of these earlier thinkers that are quoted in the attached resource.

This learning object will give your students an opportunity to think critically about the bill of rights in real life situations and leverage technology in such a way that they can learn in a fun and engaging way. The students will begin by studying the Bill of Rights at the link below, then the class will play the Kahoot Quiz online using any digital device with an internet connection.

This learning object will have your students understand how important protecting ourselves from government is and how necessary a bill or rights is.

This lesson will guide your students into a deeper understanding of how the three main branches of the American government check and balance each other. This activity can be utilized ideally in a classroom setting but could also conceivably be moved online in the form of a google plus or skype exercise.

This lesson will require students to glean all the purposes that the founding fathers embedded into the preamble, and then by contemplating upon what life is like in America today, grade our country on the completion of these goals. The lesson can be conducted in class, or online in the LMS of your choosing.
