Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Chemistry

In this unit on Chemical reactions students will be able to differentiate between the five different types of chemical reactions of synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion reactions. Students will also be able to apply the Law of Conservation of Matter and Mass towards chemical reactions; specifically balancing chemical reactions.

This is a blended learning unit I modified from a traditional unit plan to include more online and web-based material.  It requires 1:1 technology and internet access from students, but should be accessible cross platform, and even on mobile phones.

This lesson, using online video resources (YouTube videos and Khan Academy), PowerPoint presentations, science demonstrations, and online simulations, allows the students to grasp a full understanding of the phases of matter, physical and chemical changes, and distinguish between different characteristics of matter, including mass, volume, and weight.

Summer learning loss is real. Coupled with the realities of students that aren't prepared for the rigors of AP Chemistry or it may have been 1 or more years since they have taken Chemistry, this unit is designed to give students the opportunity to review basic concepts from Chemistry.

This unit introduces students to atoms, the particles they are made of and how they interact. The unit includes both activates in the classroom and online. The online activities includes videos, virtual labs and activities on my wiki page.  If hyper link will not work cut and paste in a new window.

This investigation will allow students to experience how chemical and physical changes play a role in the classification of matter. Specifically, students will be investigating three different combinations of substances and determining compounds or mixtures.
