This is a unit plan in which students will work in small groups and use technology to research different topics related to a class novel, Pictures of Hollis Woods by Patricia Reilly Giff. They will then use this information to create a Google Slides presentation to share with the class. This “We-Search” activity will be structured as a jigsaw.

People are more productive when executing a plan developed to achieve a goal. Students in this unit will develop an understanding of what self-control is and learn how to cultivate it inside the classroom and outside, both for academic and personal success.

In this unit "Career Prep", students will begin exploring their personality, skills, and interest to explore career choices that best fits their profile. Students will do further research on career choices and educational requirements. Students will also develop documents that will help promote and spotlight their skills and abilities.

In this part of the unit on ratios and proportions, students will use ratio language to write ratios in a real-world context. They will be architects who are designing an amusement park, an aquarium research center, or a baseball stadium. Students will write equivalent ratios and use them to make their building a physically safe space that meets all building requirements.

In this part of the unit, students are exploring how global temperatures have changed over the past hundred years. Students will examine tables and graphs about global temperatures and carbon dioxide levels, human consumption of food, and human consumption of natural resources. They will find patterns in the graphs.
