Dear LOR user,
Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).
Students will enhance their vocabulary in three ways: spelling, definition, usage
Students/Teacher created Quizlet accounts where necessary (Many already had one)
Pass out Vocabulary List for the week
Students log on to quizlet with phones or chromebooks
Vocabulary is handed out to students
Students load vocabulary onto quizlet as we introduce the spelling, part of speech, pronunciation, definition of each word
Discussion about how each word might sound in a sentence
Students use quizlet flashcards to study words
Play Quizlet live as a class.
The lesson went as planned
Things went smoothly
Objectives for the lesson were definitely met
Time period needed to cover the lesson was not conducive to the time we have set aside for our vocabulary program in this class. The lesson needs to last more like 15-20 minutes instead of an entire hour.
Assessment: Formative /Summative
Daily review leading up to Friday
30 point (print) quiz on Friday
To review these vocabulary words, and others, for the final exam
I love the concept of Quizlet for the kids, but I don’t have the kind of time it took to preview the words. Therefore, having kids create quizlet cards at their own tempo, outside (or inside) of the classroom each week, works better for the sake of time. Spreading the introduction of vocabulary words over 2-3 days may be another option. I can see the potential for Quizlet and Quizlet Live to play a role in my classroom.
ie: review for quizzes, tests, exams (both mandated and optional). This will not be limited to just vocabulary, but can cover many objective concepts in class.
