Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform.

Algebraic Proof Lesson

The students will get their first introduction to proofs. Since we are dealing with algebraic proofs, this is the first time students will be challenged to justify every step of solving an equation. They must start to think WHY along with HOW. This is a great introduction to geometric proofs because although the statement-reasons format stay the same, students will start to enter the abstract world and prove things that seem foreign to them. Instead of scaring them away, lets start with solving algebra equations that they are comfortable with!

Learning Targets:
Students will be able to solve a multi-step equation
Students will be able to give justification for each step of an algebraic proof
Students will be able to use properties of equality and congruence to complete an algebraic proof
