Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Diversity in Desires

Learning looks like students engaged in something that interests them. It looks like a variety of things going all over the classroom. Perhaps it’s an art project in one part of the room, video editing in another, and some students cutting up magazines for a collage on another. Controlled chaos is the best environment for learning. I have used other’s EduPuzzles and the students really like them. I have done this unit previously focused on the American Dream but it wasn’t yielding the results I wanted so I reshaped it to focus on diversity and the students’ own past, present, and future.

Learning Targets:
Students will be able to develop their own connections with characters through the text
Students will learn that many cultures have many ways of doing things and that success can be defined many ways
Students will use their understanding of plot, mood, tone, setting, and character development to dissect and analyze the text.
