Exploring Tools in a Digital Portfolio for Communication Purposes

Introduction and use of multiple tools in Seesaw in order to improve expressive language and intelligibility skills for speech and language students.

Learning Targets: 
To independently access and utilize more than one tool from the Seesaw toolbox. In order to document current progress and monitor improvement of speech/language skills (expressive language and intelligibility).

How are the standards/objectives assessed?

They will learn the process of independently accessing the Seesaw app, scanning the QR code, create a drawing, describing their drawing, focusing on their target sounds/grammar, and using a variety of ‘tools’ to engage with Seesaw and share their work with their parents.  The teacher will observe and review the students work before it is posted in their digital portfolio to determine their mastery.  

Student prerequisite skills and knowledge

None.

What concepts or procedures are being explained or demonstrated in this lesson object?

Introduction/Warm-Up:

  • Review Seesaw app with students and how to scan a QR code.

  • Demonstrate various “tools” found in Seesaw.

  • Explain today’s activity to the students.

Procedure/Activities:

  • Students will independently access the Seesaw app and scan the QR code.

  • Students will select/draw a picture with target sounds/grammar.  

  • Students will record their description of the picture using their target sounds/grammar.

  • Text will be added to students’ voice (input by teacher).

  • Students will upload their posts.

Lesson Conclusion/Summary:

Approve student posts and show the students their posts on the class feed.

Review with students how they learned to use a variety of “tools” to create their post.  Students will gain an improved awareness of their target goals (language/articulation target sounds) and be able to monitor their improvement.

 

 

What was your experience, both successes and challenges, using this lesson object with your students?

Notes/Reflection/Additional Resources:

  • Need more time to allow all students equal time to complete this lesson.

  • Due to recording, a quiet environment was required, limiting the number of student able to record at one time.
