Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform.

Guided Reading Project

Description:

Students will be designing a graphic based on the book they have finished reading in their guided reading group.   They will use the app, Canva (www.canva.com),  to create the graphic.  The graphic will include key details, descriptions, themes, plot, summary, as well as other text evidence we have discussed throughout our guided reading time together.  Students will create their graphics, and present them in a gallery walk for the rest of the class.

The content on their graphics will come from our guided reading group questions and discussions . They will record answers in their Google Classroom, based on the questions I post.  Questions will be text dependent, and focus on comprehension, main idea, key details, point of view, and connections. Students will then synthesize the information and discussion topics to create a graphic about their book.

Learning Targets: 
Students will know how to use discussions to show understanding of the text.
SWBT summarize, find key details, write a summary and discuss character traits.
SWBT create graphic to present ideas and summaries obtained through the reading of a book.

How are the standards/objectives assessed?

Face-to-face: Listening to students read to me, and engaging in discussions about the text and skill we are working on is a form of qualitative assessment I use.

Online: I use the answers to questions in Google Classroom to assess their understanding of the text or skill we are working on. Canva and their presentation during the gallery walk will also show mastery.

Online skills: Students will learn the process of using on-line tools such as Google Classroom and Canva.

Students will learn the process of participating in a guided reading group. They will also focus on comprehension, main idea, key details, point of view, and connections.
