Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform.

Historical, Social, or Political Movement Research Paper

This unit is designed to teach students the process of choosing a particular movement of historical significance and researching information that is relevant to showing the progression of that topic. In order to do this, the student will need to be able to identify relevant sources, determine important information within that source, and be able to cite the source properly. After which, the student will need to develop a thorough essay that explains the progression of the particular movement in detail using this information. This is all brought together using the 5-paragraph essay format that has been a staple format used in English classes throughout junior high and high school.

Learning Targets:
The student will, when given a set of academic sources, determine their type, origin, and level of usefulness.
The student will develop and strengthen writing by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying new approaches to reach a specific audience.
The student will draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
