Human Body Systems' Student Presentation
Objective(s)/Essential Question: Students will be able to identify nine human body systems, their functions, and major organs.
Materials/Resources: computers, google slides/slide show presentation, human body systems packet
Introduction/Warm-Up: Teacher introduces the assignment by showing students their pre-unit drawing of the human body systems ( body outline included on the last page of human body systems packet). Then, asks students if they know more now than they did on the first day. A resounding “Yes” from students! Students are given time to share their drawings and laugh about what they thought a body system was or where it was in their drawing. Then, teacher tells the students that they are going to create a presentation about all that they have learned on google slides and be able to share them with each other when they are completed.
Directions: Create a slide for each of the nine human body systems that we are studying in with the human body systems packet and all the information you have learned during this unit.
Procedure/Activities: Students are independently creating a google slides presentation on the Human Body Systems.
Lesson Conclusion/Summary: Students share their presentations in small groups or whole class and in doing so, review for the Human Body Systems Test. Students enjoy seeing the ideas and graphics that other students use and conversation is generated that reinforces the concepts of the unit.
Assessment: Formative /Summative
The students really enjoyed making the Google Slides presentations and sharing their presentations with their classmates. The sharing of the presentations are a great review for the formative assessment and excellent conversation was generated about the presentations and the body systems. The students’ presentations allowed them to be creative within the framework of demonstrating what they had learned. Each presentation was unique and many really reflected the personality of the student that created it. I was very happy with the project and felt it was a quality learning tool and a successful new addition to the unit.
In the future, I would like to update as well as digitalize the human body packet by making it into a digital notebook. I have pulled the current resources from many different sites and programs and it feels dated now with the adding of the technology components. Another great benefit of digital learning is that their work remains in the student’s google account and can’t be lost or misplaced which seems to happen often, even with the size of the packet.
