Language Standards for Personal Narrative Writing, Third Grade Blended Unit Plan

Description: 

This project combines Google Slideshows (available here), IXL Language activities and assessments purchased on Teachers Pay Teachers to teach third graders key language standards used when doing Personal Narrative writing. The complete lesson plan is available here.

Produce simple and compound sentences
Use coordinating and subordinating conjunctions
Use commas and quotation marks in dialogue
Choose words and phrases for effect
Consult reference materials as needed to check and correct spelling

How are the standards/objectives assessed?

This project links teaching directions with practice and summative assessments.  The summative assessments are available through Teachers Pay Teachers.

Student prerequisite skills and knowledge

Students will need to have access to the IXL website to be able to do the practice piece.

How is the concept or procedure explained or demonstrated?

Each standards is taught by following the same basic pattern.  The content is introduced with a Google Slideshow that is included here.  Then specific activities for practice are listed that are available on IXL Language.  IXL Language does involve the purchase of a year long license.  Finally, the concepts are tested with summative assessments available on Teachers Pay Teachers.

What was your experience, both successes and challenges, using this lesson object with your students?

This is a new project and I have not used it yet.  However, I have had good success with IXL in the past.
