Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform.

Life Science: What is Life and Cells


This is the first Unit in a Life Science study designed for Middle School students.  It explores concepts such as What is Science, Technology in Science, Scientific Inquiry, What is Life, and an Introduction into Cells: Structure and Reproduction. This is a blended unit using such tools as Online Blog responses, Prezi Presentations, Virtual Labs, Webquests and traditional classroom activities. It can be used in conjunction with your classroom textbook or as a fully functioning Unit.

Learning Targets: 
Describe what Science is.
Analyze a Scientfic Inquiry and Create controls for an investigation.
Demonstrate understanding of how Technologies role in Science has changed over time.
Classify different types of Living Things
Demonstrate an understanding of two types of Cell Structures; Plant and Animal
