Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Persuasive and Opinion Writing

Description:

In this unit students will pick a cat/dog that needs to be adopted and write a persuasive piece to persuade someone to adopt the cat/dog.  Several students in my class are passionate about cats. Their passion is spreading to other students in my class.  Their passion is driving this persuasive unit.  We will work with an animal rescue and the students will visit a rescue center on a field trip.  Students will pick a cat/dog to write a persuasive piece.  Students will have the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker that specializes in writing about cats.  To further the engagement students will also experience a virtual field trip via Skype in the classroom.  They will "visit" a Cheetah Conservatory at Busch Gardens at the conclusion.  For the final presentation, the students will use Chatterpix.  Students will have a picture of the cat/dog they wrote about which will be used on Chatterpix.  The Chatterpix cat/dog image will “present” the persuasive writing.
