Plant Unit for Preschool Age

Description: 

This is blended unit that is set up for a four- and five-year old preschool program (Great Start Readiness). The unit will take roughly three weeks to complete and is aligned with the Creative Curriculum. This plant unit is an introduction unit of different plants which the students will participate in a variety of activities; allowing the students to explore and investigate during their learning.  

Learning Targets: 
Students will correctly identify the four parts of a plant: root, stem, leaves and flower.
Students will correctly identify the three resources a plant needs: water, sun, and soil
Students will successfully plant and grow a plant.

Students need very little prior knowledge with this topic; however, having outdoors exposure would help.

How is the concept or procedure explained or demonstrated?

The concepts and procedures will be taught using a variety of learning opportunities and hands-on activities to allow the students to investigate and explore the topic of plants. 

What concepts or procedures are being explained or demonstrated in this lesson object?

The concepts and procedures that are being taught through a variety of investigations during this lesson which are as follows: plants are living, the importance of plants, the parts of a plant, and variety types of plants.

What was your experience, both successes and challenges, using this lesson object with your students?

This unit is a work in progress. It was originally created for an online course and will be used in the classroom. With the hopes of include technology in preschool classroom, this blended unit will help achieve that goal. This unit has not been taught in a classroom, yet; but will be once adjusted and completed to fit the needs of all the students in the classroom. Please feel free to edit and modify this unit to fit the needs of the students and the curriculum that is used in your classroom.
