Prehistoric Mega-Fauna

Description: 

Using powerful pictures and statistics about prehistoric Mega-fauna students are brought back in time to when human beings lived with huge mammals.  Special attention is given to the size and abilities of the animals and how human beings lived along side of them.  This presentation was created to give students a picture of what life was like during prehistoric times as well as showing them that human beings have been alive on this earth for a very long time.

Learning Targets: 
Describe the living conditions of early man.
Understand the types of animals that lived durring prehistory.
Be able to describe how we know things exsisted before history.

Student prerequisite skills and knowledge

Students need to understand the what the term prehistory means and how it is different than history.  In other words prehistoric times are the times before history was written down and we know about it because of the geological and fossil record

How is the concept or procedure explained or demonstrated?

Prehistory is explained by looking at the fossil record of prehistoric Mega-Fauna.

What concepts or procedures are being explained or demonstrated in this lesson object?

The concept of understanding paleontology and understanding prehistoric times.

What was your experience, both successes and challenges, using this lesson object with your students?

This is a very interesting and though provoking look at how early man lived and what his/her world would have looked like.  This presentation creates great discussions about how human beings managed to outlive other mammals and now populate the entire planet.
