Triangle Congruence Matching/Guessing Game

Description: 

Students will cut out the cards on the attached worksheet. They will walk around the room and show their partner the triangle. Their partner will then answer with what type of triangle congruence theorem it is (ASA, SSS, HL, etc). It is a great way for students to visualize the different theorems and get out of their seats!

Learning Targets: 
Students will be able to identify if there is a triangle congruence displayed
Students will be able to identify which triangle congruence theorem is displayed

How are the standards/objectives assessed?

You cannot complete the activity unless the other students in the class are answering the questions correctly. This forces students to know what they are doing.

Student prerequisite skills and knowledge

Students will need to be able to identify the 5 triangle congruence theorems (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, HL).

How is the concept or procedure explained or demonstrated?

Instead of filling out a worksheet, students will visually see a picture and verbally answer the question. It is a fast paced activity which causes to think on their feet.

What concepts or procedures are being explained or demonstrated in this lesson object?

The 5 triangle congruence theorems will be used in almost every proof this unit. The more practice the students have identifying the theorems the more efficient they will become with the proofs.

What was your experience, both successes and challenges, using this lesson object with your students?

Successes - several students get very competitive and want to win and so they go all out. It also helped that students only had a few seconds to answer the question because it forced them to think quickly. Challenges - the students that didn't grasp onto the content the first time struggled with this activity and identifying the theorems. it would be a good idea to have an alternate activity/worksheet that students could choose to do instead of the activity.
