Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

Description

Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.

Students will learn how to engage in a robotics club.  Students will work in teams to design and build a robot to complete a series of given tasks.  Students will also learn how to program a robot to perform certain functions.

Students will learn what it means to be autonomous and how to program robots to move on their own. They will learn the importance of giving specific, exact directions in a computer program to make the robot do what they want and go where they want. They will program the robots to complete increasingly difficult tasks, culminating in a robotics team competition.

Students begin the unit learning about what robots are and how humans use robots to avoid dull, dirty, or dangerous work. Students will complete several tasks that require them to design a solution to a problem while following the given criteria and constraints, while also learning about inputs and outputs on a robot.
