Mindfulness/Healthy Life Blended Unit

In grade 2 of the PYP, within the unit of "Who We Are" the students look at mindfulness. A large part of this unit is spent on the differences of healthy and unhealthy food. Additionally, students explore what it means to live a balanced lifestyle.

Families of Functions

Students will use a discovery approach to learn about the different families of functions. They will look for patterns between multiple function representations and use those patterns to identify key characteristics of linear, quadratic, absolute value, exponential, and rational functions. Students will identify function patterns in equations, tables, and graphs.

Vietnam War Blended Learning

This blended learning unit of the Vietnam War allows for students to rotate through stations, assess their knowledge and work in small groups with an instructor.  It also provides links to Web 2.0 tools utilized to create instructional videos, quizzes and projects.  It follows Michigan State standards for US History at the high school level.

Yoga as a Restorative Practice Unit

This unit is for educators looking for alternative behavioral and classroom management techniques.  This unit focuses on using the practice of yoga as a means for self-regulation and potentially conflict resolution.  Participants will be exposed to some of the basics of yoga and how to integrate it into an educational setting to potentially improve student behavior and achievement.

Spanish Clothing Unit

Students will explore clothing vocabulary and local currency of Spanish-speaking countries. Through Total Physical Response, Kahoot!, and various games, students will learn and practice use of vocabulary such as: pantalones, camisa, zapatos, gorro, botas, bufanda, sombrero, sueter, chaqueta, sandalias, traje de bano, gafas, etc.

MS Earth Science 6th Grade Focus cohort 05-14-2018
