Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

This unit explores the beauty of poetry and its ability to take us away. Students will be introduced to a variety of poems and poetry concepts. Throughout this unit the students will be encouraged to read and enjoy poetry while learning how figurative language and mood adds to the meaning of poetry. The unit will end with students writing and reciting their own poetry.

A part of our curriculum is reading response letters, which students write about what they are reading in the form of a letter to their teacher each week in their reader's notebook.  Each week, the teacher will write back and ask them further questions.  The paragraphs usually consist of the following:

This unit is incorporated into our 5th Grade Project Lead The Way (PLTW) unit, Robotics, and my students are going to write an informational piece on how robots can help humans and society.  Module One in PLTW is all about how robots can help in disasterous, dangerous and dirty situations.
