Dear LOR user,

Thank you for being a big part of this community. To better support the initiatives around open educational resources in the state of Michigan, all resources on the Michigan Virtual Learning Object Repository (LOR) are being moved to #GoOpen Michigan (link is external) on September 30th, 2018. During the transition, our LOR will be moved to an archived state, not allowing new user registration or new content to be added. An email with more details was sent to registered users of the LOR in September. To make use of the great resources on the platform, we encourage you to create an account and add your own new resources to the #GoOpen Michigan platform (link is external).

This resource has two Prezi presentations as well as a planned blended learning word document that can be used for explaning everything about ratios, proportions, and percentages.  The unit starts with basic ratios, then transitioning to equivalent ratios known as proportions.

In this unit on Earth’s Place in the Universe, 6th grade students will delve deeply into the universe and its stars as well as our solar system and Earth’s place within it.

In 6th grade Geometry: Two & Three Dimensional Measurement, students will solve real-world mathematical problems involving area, surface area and volume.  Students will learn the difference between 2 dimensional figures and 3 dimensional figures (solids). Students will be able to sketch a net of a rectangular prism and calculate the total Surface Area.

Through mini-lessons (Ex: dialogue, story elements, figurative language, good introductions,genre study,  etc.),  daily writing and revising, students will go through the writing process to produce a narrative writing on a topic of their choice.

Being able to create with the same process that designers and engineers use is one of the biggest learning super powers we can give our students. The steps are relatively simple to master and create a productive, growth-centered mindset in our learners.

This unit addresses four 6th grade reading standards taught throughout the course of a trimester. These lessons are designed to be taught one day a week, while the other days in the trimester are focused on writing units. This unit is designed to be co-taught with a general education and special education teacher, but can be easily adapted if only one teacher is present.
